For now, this is a report of a possible rollout, not a confirmed feature. A report has surfaced that after reaching the 5-hour limit, Claude Code may provide a small additional buffer from the weekly allowance to finish the current task. Anthropic has not published exact rules for this option, so it cannot be considered guaranteed for all accounts and plans.

What we know so far about the limits

Anthropic has publicly described Claude Code’s 5-hour limits and announced increases for Pro, Max, Team, and some enterprise users. The company also announced that it was ending peak-hour limit reductions for Pro and Max plans. These changes confirm that the service uses separate usage windows, but do not in themselves confirm that weekly quota can be carried over to finish a task.

How to interpret the additional buffer

If this behavior has appeared for only some users, it may depend on the plan, a phased rollout, or current server settings. Until Anthropic clarifies this in its help center or a release announcement, you cannot count on a fixed number of additional requests or guaranteed completion of unfinished work.

For a long task, it helps to save the intermediate state: ask the agent to document the changes made, run builds and tests in stages, and leave a plan for continuing. That way, hitting the limit does not turn the entire session into lost work, regardless of whether the account has an additional reserve.

Where to check the current terms

Check the limits and remaining usage in the Claude Code interface and Anthropic’s help center. In its published announcement about increased usage limits, the company described increases to the 5-hour limits and changes to peak-hour rules; information about a buffer from the weekly limit should be considered unconfirmed until a separate official description appears.

The initial terms for the limit increase were published in Anthropic’s Claude limits announcement; current account settings may depend on the plan and may change over time.
